Currently, university students pay, on average, €600 for their textbooks in their first year. This is too much according to 90% of the 500 students we interviewed across the country in our research. Of those students, 65% say they prefer textbooks for their studies. Textbooks need to be affordable for all students, who often reach out to (illegal) alternatives to books, which decreases the study efficiency of the students.
BooksOnBudget offers a subscription-based book rental service. With one click on the button, the students receive their books whenever they need them. The fee can be paid monthly or yearly, which is 75% less compared to buying a new book. This means a student would pay on average €8 per month for all their textbooks. Next to that, students learn more from study books compared to online books, and the solution stimulates a circular economy. Currently, we have 15 paying customers at Communication Sciences in our first pilot. In September, we will expand to 500 students across the university. https://www.linkedin.com/company/79131749 www.booksonbudget.nl
